Montenegro visa runs: how the day limits work
Montenegro is a classic base for border runs, but whether leaving actually resets your days depends on your passport.
By passport
- Russia: up to 30 days per entry — the counter resets each time you exit and re-enter.
- Ukraine: up to 90 days within any 180-day period — a rolling window.
Does a border run reset your days?
For a Russian passport, yes: the 30-day allowance is per entry, so a genuine exit and re-entry starts a fresh 30 days — which is why Montenegro border runs are common. For a Ukrainian passport, no: the 90/180 window keeps counting your recent days, so leaving and returning changes nothing.
Frequent same-day runs can draw questions at the border, and rules can change — confirm the current limit for your passport. This is general information, not legal advice.
How to keep track
- Russia: watch your current 30-day entry and plan the exit before it runs out.
- Ukraine: count present days across the rolling 180-day window.
- Count entry and exit days as present days.
